"Dylan, Sculptor" (French: S.V.P. ne pas déranger) is an episode of the second series of The Magic Roundabout. In the UK, it was the eighty-first episode to be broadcast of that series, with Eric Thompson's narration.

Plot[]

Dougal was posing as Dylan was making a sculpture of him. He was getting tired, but Dylan reassures Dougal that he is nearly finished. Dougal thinks if the sign that they hung on a tree will keep everyone away as they do not want to show the sculpture until it is finished. Meanwhile, Florence and Mr Rusty were at the Magic Roundabout talking about the international situation before they called for Zebedee who arrived, saying that there is something creative in the gardens.

Florence and Mr Rusty arrived in the garden where they meet Ermintrude. After they guessed on what is going on in the garden, Ermintrude went to see how Dougal and Dylan were getting on, before she gets dismissed by them, saying that the sculpture is not finished yet and they are going to let them know. Ermintrude returned to Florence and Mr Rusty and passes on the information of what Dougal and Dylan told her, saying that it's a secret. Dylan was reworking the nose after checking the measurements of Dougal's nose. Then, Brian interrupts them with his cheerful greeting, infuriating Dylan, saying that he had to have silence when working, with Dougal rather coarsely telling Brian to zip his screamer. This prompts an appalled Brian to slither to Florence and Mr Rusty, asking them if they heard that.

The Train arrives, unintentionally disturbing Dylan, causing him to go into despair. After being asked if they want to go anywhere, Dylan hysterically replies that he wants silence, with Dougal pointing out to Train that he has now upset Dylan. After Train leaves, Dylan gets startled accidentally by Mr McHenry who apologises. This causes Dylan to declare that he doesn't know what he was doing anymore after being disturbed. As Mr McHenry greets Florence and Mr Rusty, Dylan loses control of what he was doing as Dougal points this out to Florence, when she and Mr Rusty came over. After Mr Rusty asks about the "Please do not disturb" sign, Dylan says that he can't go on as he is upset of being disturbed too much. However, something went on as the parts of clay from the sculpture come alive and form a clay statue. The clay statue says that it is time for bed.

Trivia[]

  • The AB Productions redub of the French version has two instances of Florence's original voice being heard in a row, when she and Mr. Rusty call Zebedee and then both counting to three before being transported to the garden. This is also one of the few series 2 episodes redubbed by AB Productions to leave in the original recording of the countdown.

Releases[]

  • The Eric Thompson narration was released to VHS on Volume 2 by BBC Video in 1991, and again on The Very Best of the Magic Roundabout in 1993.
  • The script to the Eric Thompson version is included in the 1999 novel, The Adventures of Dylan.
  • The AB Productions redub of the French version was released to VHS on the 5th volume of the AB/TF1 Video collection.
